Project - Woodchip Drying and Storage Facility - Boughton Estate
Infrastucture Development.
At ACT Industrial Buildings, we pride ourselves on delivering comprehensive turnkey solutions tailored to our clients' needs. One of our recent projects involved designing and constructing a state-of-the-art woodchip drying and storage facility for Boughton Estate, showcasing our expertise in industrial and agricultural infrastructure development.
Project Overview:
The project encompassed the complete deconstruction of existing buildings and site clearance, paving the way for a new, modern facility. Our team managed every aspect from start to finish, ensuring a seamless transition from old to new.
Site Preparation and Infrastructure:
We began by breaking out and recycling all existing concrete floors and walls, minimizing waste and promoting sustainability. Over 500 meters of new drainage was installed across the site, significantly upgrading the infrastructure to support the new facility’s operational needs.
Construction of the New Steel Building:
A key component was the supply and installation of an 850 square meter steel building, designed for efficient woodchip drying and storage. The building features:
4.5-meter-high concrete wall panels for robust structural support
A dripstop roof to prevent condensation and ensure optimal drying conditions
All necessary doors and an electrical installation to facilitate seamless operation
Flooring and External Works:
Throughout the new building, we installed 150mm reinforced, polished concrete floors, providing a durable and easy-to-maintain surface suitable for high-volume agricultural use. Additionally, a new 1,300 square meter road network was constructed, ensuring smooth access and transportation around the site.
Sustainable Timber Cladding:
A standout feature of this project was the use of timber cladding, sourced directly from Boughton Estate’s own woodlands. The timber was cut and sawn on-site, emphasizing the project’s sustainability and connection to the estate’s natural resources. The timber cladding was then installed on the new building, blending functionality with eco-conscious design.
Refurbishment of Existing Agricultural Building:
In addition to the new construction, we fully refurbished an existing agricultural building on the estate. This included replacing the asbestos roof and gutters, upgrading the electrical system, and installing new doors—restoring the building to a modern, safe, and functional standard.
The Boughton Estate woodchip drying and storage facility exemplifies our ability to deliver bespoke, sustainable, and fully integrated solutions for agricultural and industrial projects.
